Does your building qualify for a §510 exception — or is ERCES required?

Under all recent IFC editions (2015 onward), §510.1 states that new buildings and additions shall have emergency responder radio coverage. Coverage is the default; some buildings qualify for narrow exceptions. Existing buildings and buildings that already have BDA/ERCES equipment have their own separate requirements. This guided check helps identify which category your building falls into and what the local Authority Having Jurisdiction expects. Probabilistic — not a code determination.
